Valerie Miles-Tribble, D.Min., Assistant Minister

Reverend Doctor Valerie Miles-Tribble serves as the Assistant Minister in pastoral ministry with Senior Minister and Pastor George Cummings.  She has served since the inception of Imani Community Church, assisting the Pastor with programmatic and worship duties. She also coordinates strategic planning, organizational development and community outreach ministries.

Rev. Valerie was licensed as a minister (1998), earned a Master of Divinity degree (2001) and was duly ordained within American Baptist Churches, USA (2001).  She earned the Doctorate of Ministry degree at the San Francisco Theological Seminary in 2006 and is an adjunct professor at both the San Francisco Theological Seminary in the D. Min. program and American Baptist Seminary of the West.

A spiritual vision and passion for community revitalization through the church as spiritual change agent guides Rev. Valerie to engage and equip others for discipleship and social justice advocacy along side the poor and the disenfranchised. She is an active community organizing leader and former board member in Oakland Community Organizations (OCO) – a federation of more than 40 ecumenical and culturally diverse congregations working toward positive change for marginalized families and neighborhoods. In that capacity, she works on affordable housing issues with the Oakland Housing Coalition. To support the residents to build better and safe communities, Rev. Dr. Miles-Tribble is active in the Laurel/Bret/Harte Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council (NCPC).

A Philadelphia native, Rev. Valerie resides in Oakland with husband George and teenage son, Timothy. Above all, Rev. Valerie counts it a joy and privilege to serve the Lord in a prophetic ministry of preaching, teaching and laboring in God’s vineyard. (Isaiah 58:1-12; Matt. 25:31-41)
