As we navigate this season of grief we give thanks that Sis. Jill Bates Moore has agreed to lead us in a healing practice.
Restorative yoga is a delicious, tension-relieving practice. Instead of focusing on how much our muscles can do, we will melt into passive, long held postures.
We use props like pillows, blankets, and blocks to support our bodies, letting our muscles take a time out. The benefits of Restorative yoga can include quieting the mind and down-regulating the nervous system, but IT IS 100% OKAY if you’re just in it for the yummy long savasana (sha VAH sa nah) at the end!

What to bring:
If you aren’t interested in having a regular yoga practice, don’t run out and buy a bunch of yoga kit. Here’s what you’ll need, including options from around the house:
* A practice space anywhere you feel safe and can lay your whole body down.
* A yoga mat. Or, you can practice on a rug or carpet so the floor is not too hard. Make sure the surface is not too slippery.
* A yoga bolster (long, firm-ish pillow). Couch or chair cushions also works well.
* Two yoga blocks, or a couple of thick books, full rolls of paper towels, or even a small (clean) trash can that is stable when turned upside down.
* If you’d like to cover your eyes during savasana, grab an eye mask / pillow or a face towel
Don’t hesitate to make it a vibe for yourself. If candles, incense, aromatherapy diffuser, etc. are your jam - let it enhance your practice!

More about Sis. Jill:
Hi, I’m Jill
Yoga found me at a time when I very much needed to stop and be here; to, as my great granny used to say, “go somewhere and sat down” in myself. The practice invites me to explore the singular place where I am.
I live in a body that is larger and more particular in its needs than what is typically represented in yoga imagery. The practice invites me home to the truth in my body.
I facilitate community practice as a way of extending these invitations to you. You can find me at www.EverybodEase.yoga and at www.BlacktoYoga.com.
When I’m not on my mat, you can find me lawyering, sewing, reading or making something - preferably near water, but never far from cake. 😉
